SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Bates Troy Healthcare Linen Services reports it was honored earlier this month for Community Service Excellence at the 10th annual Family Business Awards of Central New York (CNY).
The annual Family Business Awards of CNY are sponsored by the Central New York Business Journal (CNYBJ). The awards recognize and honor family-owned businesses headquartered in Central New York.
CNYBJ, also a multi-generational, family-owned business, believes strongly that family businesses are an integral part of our community, both economically and socially. Many of these firms honored have been around a long time; some more than 100 years and run by multiple generations.
In the case of Bates Troy, Brian Kradjian, company president, is the third generation of ownership. He was in attendance with his wife Anahit and their 5-year-old son, Ara, the fourth generation of family ownership in the making.
“It’s a real honor to receive this award and be recognized for what we feel is our responsibility to be actively engaged in supporting our local and regional communities,” says Kradjian.
Bates Troy, an accredited Hygienically Clean healthcare laundry in Binghamton with 165 employees, provides sanitized linen to acute, non-acute and long-term healthcare facilities within a 120-mile service radius of Binghamton, servicing New York’s Southern Tier, Central New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The original Bates Steam Laundry can trace its start back to 1852 in Binghamton which later merged with Troy laundry forming Bates Troy in 1902.
Additionally, the company has a Quality Dry Cleaning Division providing laundry and dry-cleaning services, fire and water restoration services, and tailoring at its two local retail stores.
Among some of the community-oriented projects and endeavors Bates Troy has sponsored and supported are:
- WBNG’s Annual Coats for Kids Drives for over 20 years where each year they launder and dry clean coats for free for children in need. 1,400 coats cleaned this year equate to $25,000 in donated services.
- For the past five years, it has provided free bath towels every week to Showers of Hope/Outreach Ministries of the Southern Tier which provides mobile access to showers for the unhoused.
- For the past eight years, Bates Troy has sponsored and participated in the American Heart Association of the Southern Tier’s Annual Heart Walk.
- It also supports the Upstate Foundation’s annual Walk/Run for Kids, a fundraiser for families of patients at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.
- In 2007 and 2011, Greater Binghamton was devastated by 100- and 500-year floods. Bates Troy supplied linens for displaced residents taking emergency shelter at Binghamton University Event Center.
- The company is also a corporate partner of New York Industries for the Disabled (NYSID) and Achieve employing 12 individuals with disabilities onsite and more offsite with its partner AVRE.
- Bates Troy helps non-customers in the region, namely area hotels and nursing homes, when they have breakdowns or emergencies with their on-premises laundries.
The company invests in many local community nonprofits, charitable organizations, and cultural and community events that enhance the quality of life in Broome County and Central New York.
“It’s a real honor to receive this award and be recognized for what we feel is our responsibility to be actively engaged in supporting our local and regional communities,” says Kradjian.
