WILMINGTON, Mass. — UniFirst Corp., a North American provider of customized business uniform programs, facility service products, and first aid and safety services, reports it is investing $28 million to expand its Owensboro, Kentucky, Distribution and Fulfillment Center.
The project includes a 110,000-square-foot addition to the 360,000-square-foot facility, advanced robotics technology, and a streamlined ordering system designed to support growth and boost operational capacity.
“Our investment in our Owensboro facility is a strategic step forward in delivering the best service in the industry,” says Steven Sintros, UniFirst president and CEO. “With state-of-the-art robotics and overall system upgrades, we’re taking innovation and operational excellence to the next level.
“This expansion is all about serving our customers better than ever while strengthening our deep connection with the Owensboro community. It’s a clear reflection of our dedication to progress and our relentless focus on our customers.”
The Owensboro Distribution and Fulfillment Center inventories, customizes, and distributes work apparel and personal safety items to companies across North America. Since its opening in 1998, the facility has grown significantly, shipping more than 20 million garments annually.
UniFirst says the upgrades will help optimize operations, enhance order accuracy and deliver more customized solutions for its diverse customer base.
“The new technology and increased capacity will allow us to operate more efficiently and meet customer needs with unmatched precision,” adds David Dersheimer, general manager at Owensboro. “This project positions us for continued growth well into the future.”
