TradeWinds Island Resorts Reaches Safety Milestone

ST. PETE BEACH. Fla. — Laundry employees at the TradeWinds Island Resorts recently celebrated a milestone: 1,000 days without a worker injury. The team, which fluctuates between 15 and 25 employees throughout the year, achieved this through multiple safety programs meant to improve on a previous safety record that was not as pristine.

Bob McManaway, director of plant operations, and Kate Lerch, the resort’s laundry director, worked to improve safety conditions by photographing potential safety hazards and posting them to a “safety board” for employees to see.

Now, workers are involved in the education process, and are even given the chance to win a prize every month if they can identify the hazards in a photo, according to TradeWinds Island Resorts. The prize includes a $50 gift card, a safety luncheon with other workers, and an “annual safety excursion.”

“We work in a fast-paced laundry production environment and want to do everything we can to ensure the safety of all of our employees,” says McManaway. “Getting them involved with the process is a large part of our success.”
