Healthcare Laundry Systems Launches New Safety Initiative

WHEELING, Ill. — Healthcare Laundry Systems (HLS), a leading provider of laundry services to hospitals and clinics in the greater Chicago area, reports it has launched a companywide initiative focusing on employee and workplace safety.
Blue Wolf Capital Fund II formed HLS and announced the acquisitions of the assets of Wheeling-based Hospital Laundry Services and Rockford, Ill.-based Northern Illinois Hospital Services in November.
Since then, the company has initiated the procedures, which augment existing policies, to include:

  • Collaboratively reviewing existing safety policies and procedures with management and the company’s unions to ensure compliance with best practices;
  • Aggressively monitoring areas of concern; and
  • Establishing incentives, tied to newly established safety goals, to drive safety-consciousness throughout the business and to reduce injuries and incidents.

Collectively, UNITE HERE, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and the International Union of Operating Engineers represent most of the company’s hourly employees, and more than 80% of HLS employees.
“HLS is a strong and growing company, and we are pleased to work cooperatively with the unions and our new owners in ensuring that safety remains the highest priority, which will lead to a more productive workplace for us all,” says Chuck Rossmiller, HLS general manager.
