Worker Dies in Australia Laundry Accident

MELBOURNE, Australia — A worker in the Del Brocco Laundry in the Melbourne suburb of Heidelberg West was crushed between the rollers of a flatwork ironer last week when he somehow became caught in the machine, according to WorkSafe Victoria, which manages workplace safety in the state.
The victim is Vietnamese and came to Australia earlier this year, so investigators are trying to determine if language or inadequate instruction could've contributed to the accident.
"Machines must be properly guarded, [and] employees must have appropriate training and supervision, in their own language, if necessary," says John Merritt, WorkSafe's executive director.
