NEW YORK — UNITE HERE has launched a program to advise organizations and associations about the hotel labor situation in cities across the nation.
INMEX — the Informed Meetings Exchange — will research, analyze and distribute information about the global hospitality industry to subscribers.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the National Council of La Raza are among the 100-plus at start-up.
"The organizations here represent the most lucrative, consistent and highly sought-after customer segment in the hospitality industry," says John Wilhelm, president of the union's Hospitality Division. "The largest global hotel corporations, like Hilton for instance, rely on meeting and convention business from groups like these for approximately one-third of their annual revenue. INMEX is a useful tool for all organizations to ensure they have the most accurate information about the hotel industry before they book meetings and events."
UNITE HERE counts more than 200,000 textile and laundry workers among its 450,000 active members.
