WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — The Board of Directors of the Textile Care Allied Trades Association (TCATA) has decided to postpone its 2020 Annual Conference, which was to be held April 29-May 2 at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort in Hilton Head, South Carolina, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a press release.
The Board considered rescheduling the conference for later this year, but in light of the uncertainty surrounding the timeline of the pandemic, it decided to postpone until an appropriate time in 2021, says TCATA President Fred Schwarzmann.
He goes on to say the Board didn’t take the decision lightly, especially since TCATA was looking forward to celebrating its 100th anniversary during the conference.
“But in the shadow of the Coronavirus, we believe this decision was necessary to protect the health and safety of our members, which we put first and foremost,” Schwarzmann says.
The Board also took into consideration the fact that the World Health Organization (WHO) has designated COVID-19 to be a global pandemic and that President Trump has declared a National Emergency.
“In response to limits being put on travel and social gatherings, your Board of Directors recognized that holding our upcoming conference as originally scheduled was simply not an option,” adds Schwarzmann.
Further details on the 2021 Conference will be released as soon as they become available.
