NAILM Members to Vote on Name Change in June

RICHMOND, Ky. — Members of the National Association of Institutional Linen Management (NAILM) will be asked to vote on changing the association’s name at NAILM’s annual meeting just prior to the Clean Show in Las Vegas, reports Bart Carpenter, senior vice president, in the association’s NLM Journal.
An ad hoc committee authorized by NAILM’s membership at the 2006 annual meeting “sifted through a vast number” of suggestions before sending two to the NAILM board.
The board selected one – Association of Linen Management (ALM) – and the Bylaws Committee has recommended approval at the June 10 national business meeting.
The drive to study a name change grew from staff concerns that its institutional identification is limiting marketing opportunities and stagnating growth.
“After much discussion, it was decided that this name change [ALM] met all criteria that was necessary for it to be recommended to the membership for approval,” Carpenter explains.
Another proposal submitted to the committee – National Association of International Linen Management, which would retain the current acronym – will be presented to the membership with “No comment,” according to Carpenter.
“The ad hoc committee had had this and other suggestions that kept the old acronym but had rejected them because they felt that to keep the old acronym would not do what the association was looking to do.”
NAILM, a nonprofit professional organization, was founded in 1939 "to provide a network for the flow of information among its members leading toward their professional development and the advancement of the technologies they employ."
It's one of six industry associations that sponsor the Clean Show. It describes itself today as "the premier educational source for people and organizations that purchase, process, distribute and manage the use of textiles."
