Hospital Laundry Outsourcing Sees 4% Gain

CHICAGO — Housekeeping regained the top spot among hospital department management contracts in 2005, the latest issue of Modern Healthcare reports, while laundry dropped from the top spot in last year's survey to third place this year.
Housekeeping, food service and laundry were the top three categories, according to the magazine's annual Outsourcing Survey. They accounted for a combined 6,876 healthcare clients in 2005, up 7.8% from 6,378 the previous year. Housekeeping rose 3.5% to 2,548 healthcare facilities, food service increased 16.8% to 2,334 and laundry rose 4% to 1,994.
