Goodwill Closing Milwaukee Laundry Operation

Facility set to cease processing on Aug. 3, affecting 136 employees

MILWAUKEE — Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin and Metropolitan Chicago will be closing its commercial laundry business here effective Aug. 3.

The organization filed a facility closure/WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act notice on June 4.

“We have taken a thorough approach to get to this point and we are confident that although it is not ideal, we have made the right decision for Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin and Metropolitan Chicago,” the organization says in a prepared statement.

“We remain committed to our employees during this transition and ensuring people are supported through the closure of the business.”

A total of 136 employees will be affected by the closure.

“As a workforce development leader, we are positioned to make sure our employees reach the best possible outcomes in this situation,” the statement continues.

Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin and Metropolitan Chicago shares that it is putting resources in place to help employees connect to new opportunities and maintain employment.

It will provide support services and guidance, including one-on-one counseling, resume and skill set review, and internal application consultations to discuss job opportunities at Goodwill and with Goodwill partners.

Also, the organization is joining with external partners to help employees create resumes, search for jobs and prepare for interviews until they have secured a new employment opportunity.

“We will continue operating our retail outlet and mission programs and services at the James O. Wright Center for Work and Training in Milwaukee,” the organization shares in its statement. “This includes workforce development support through the Workforce Connection Center and Goodwill TalentBridge, and community-based support programs such as Day Services and Meals on Wheels.

“Goodwill will continue to embed our programs and services in the communities we serve to meet people where they are, including on the northwest side of Milwaukee.

“We remain steadfast to provide individuals the skills and resources they need to succeed in the workforce—and in life.”
