G&K Services Acquires Competitor Leef Services

MINNEAPOLIS — G&K Services has acquired the outstanding stock of Leef Brothers Inc. (Leef Services), a leading uniform and facility services company that serves customers in the Upper Midwest. Terms were not announced.
“We’re extremely pleased to expand our market-leading position in the Upper Midwest with the acquisition of Leef,” says Richard Marcantonio, G&K’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Leef has been a long-standing, successful competitor in our marketplace with an excellent reputation for providing outstanding customer service. We welcome Leef’s employees and customers to G&K.”
Leef, which is also based in Minneapolis, was founded in 1908 and is the largest local independent provider in the Upper Midwest market, G&K says. Leef’s website says it serves more than 8,000 customers and has more than 300 employees. It has production facilities in Minneapolis and Duluth, Minn., and Fargo, N.D., and distribution centers in St. Cloud and Waseca, Minn., Grand Forks, N.D., and Watertown, S.D. The acquisition will add approximately $20 million in annual revenue to G&K Services.
“The acquisition of Leef is a great example of how we’re executing our strategy to acquire solid businesses that strengthen our market position and increase the utilization of our existing operations,” adds Marcantonio. “Leef’s long-term success complements our own rich history, further strengthening our ability to enhance the image and safety needs of our customers. We’ll continue to focus on acquiring quality businesses that leverage our North American footprint and enhance our capabilities.”
