Encompass Group Names Spurlock CEO

MCDONOUGH, Ga. — Encompass Group has named Mike Spurlock as its first chief executive officer. Prior to this announcement, the company was led first by a board of directors and then by a three-man office of the president shared by board members Dave Huelsbeck, John Sleizer and Spurlock.
The Encompass board unanimously voted to seek out and appoint a single person to guide its overall strategic direction and management to ensure continued success.
Spurlock was one of the original architects in the formation of Encompass Group in 1999, the company says, and while the board considered both internal and external candidates to fill the CEO role, it ultimately decided that Spurlock was the best fit to lead the company.
“Mike is exactly the right leader for Encompass,” says John Hamilton, chairman of the board. “His knowledge of the business, and understanding of our customers’, employees’ and shareholders’ needs will help position Encompass for continued growth and success.”
Prior to his appointment as CEO, Spurlock was president of Encompass’ Textiles and Interiors and Therapeutic Support Systems divisions. He also ran the company’s retail uniform division, White Swan, from 2002 to 2004.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Spurlock began his career with American Hospital Supply Corp. (now Cardinal Health) and held various key leadership positions during his 20-year career with that company. He joined Beckley-Cardy in 1995 as chief marketing officer prior to joining Dowling Textiles, a founding Encompass company, in 1997.
Encompass Group manufactures and markets reusable and disposable/limited-use textiles, pillows and therapeutic support systems to the healthcare market.
