BOSTON — Crown Uniform & Linen Service recently honored office supervisor Denise Barrett for her 50 years of company service, a significant accomplishment considering Crown’s 100-year history.
Barrett was congratulated at a surprise party at which she received an employee recognition award and gift card from the company owners, the Spilios family.
“I remember the day after celebrating my high school graduation in 1964,” she says. “My parents told me they were proud of me and that it was time to get a job. They said Crown was hiring and that I should go down and apply right away. Well, I got the job and have been here ever since!”
Barrett works at Crown’s Boston facility, where she directs the flow of communications, synchronizes interdepartmental activities and manages purchase orders and shipping schedules.
On the improvement of technology over time, she says, “When I first started with Crown, every task had to be completed manually, but modern technology has made everything faster and easier than I ever dreamed possible.”
Her favorite part of her job is that “everyone here is part of a team, working together for the good of the company and for ourselves,” she says. “Crown has always put their employees first, so I feel that I am growing with the company.”
Company Vice President Plato Spilios expressed his appreciation for Barrett and her dedication to Crown.
“During the past 50 years, three generations of the Spilios family have had the pleasure of working with Denise, and she is a valued and trusted member of our family,” he says. “She leads by example and commands respect with her high work ethic, integrity, ability to read people, and common-sense approach. We have been blessed to have Denise part of our Crown family for the last five decades, and she will hold an indelible place in our history.”
