As China Thrives, So Does Laundry Sophistication

BEIJING, China — China’s continued economic growth, improving living standards, and thriving tourism are generating a huge demand for sophisticated laundry and drycleaning systems here, says Messe Frankfurt, the trade fair organizer preparing for this month’s Texcare Asia.
The International Trade Fair for Modern Textile Care, slated for Oct. 28-30 at Beijing’s China International Exhibition Centre, will try to build on the success of Texcare Asia 2007. That event attracted more than 5,700 visitors to Shanghai to see more than 135 exhibitors.
Mainland China’s laundry and drycleaning market is thriving for a variety of reasons:

  • Tax cuts, rebates and exemptions have been implemented to boost enterprise investment.
  • New regulations require ventilating drycleaning machines that were installed before May 1, 2009, to be replaced with nonventilating models.
  • Businesses and government institutions are adopting centralized laundry systems.
  • China’s healthcare system continues to expand, supported by an influx of government funding.

The European textile care industry leads the world in hygiene standards and quality-control mechanisms, environmentally friendly processing technologies, and textile rental business practices, says Messe Frankfurt, and practitioners in China are eager to learn about these issues.
More than 120 exhibitors from Belgium, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United States will exhibit their latest range of products.
Running in tandem with the fair will be the Texcare Forum Asia, which will offer seminars to address key industry issues. Experts from international companies and institutes from Europe, North America and Asia will discuss, among other things, best practices, market trends and developments, new technologies, training and education, and educational issues.
“The Texcare Forum Asia is a great opportunity for industry players to learn more about the advanced technology being presented at Texcare Asia and about the current developments and marketing strategies in the sector of textile care,” says Elgar Straub, managing director of VDMA Garment and Leather Technology, one of the Forum’s sponsoring partners.
“Environmental protection and conservation of resources are major challenges that are not just unique to China but the world over. Therefore, one part of the Forum will be dedicated to this topic. Attendance at the Forum is a must for everyone who wants to be well informed and prepared for these challenges.”ALL UNDER ONE ROOF
The fifth edition of the biennial fair will host an exhibit area of nearly 10,000 square meters (approximately 108,000 square feet) and feature country pavilions from Italy and Germany.
“Gathering many global players and decision makers under one roof, Texcare Asia is understandably an important event for us,” says Bo-Lennart Jonasson, vice president of marketing, Product Management, Electrolux Laundry Systems Sweden.
“Recognizing the potential of the Asian laundry and drycleaning market, we will be presenting at the fair our Generation 4000 washer-extractors, tumble dryers, ironers and barrier washers, which are equipped with our proprietary Compass Control and Wash Triangle Technology to optimize operating efficiency. Our FFS ironer and the washer-dryer, successfully launched in Europe, will be introduced for the first time to the Asian market as well.”
“This will be the fourth time Kannegiesser has exhibited at Texcare Asia,” says Engelbert Heinz, general manager of Herbert Kannegiesser GmbH. “In doing so, we are in a stronger position to showcase how investors can implement practical cost and energy-efficient solutions in China, Asia and beyond.”
Heinz says more and more of Kannegiesser’s complete turn-key solutions are being installed in laundries across China, so the company will be showcasing its entire range of washing, extraction, drying, ironing and finishing equipment and systems.
At a time when many companies may have postponed or only partly implemented research and development programs, the Jensen Group has bucked that trend and will be launching its CleanTech System at Texcare Asia, says Kathrin Scheffel, Jensen’s marketing director.
“This wide range of energy- and water-efficient gas-operated machines revolutionizes the high-energy-consuming practices of the laundry industry,” Scheffel says. “In lieu of newly enacted environmental legislation, we expect our EXPG ironer, the Omega Pro garment finishing tunnel, the Senking dryer and the Universal gas washing tunnel will be widely received.”
Alliance International has plans to introduce Speed Queen’s new control platforms; IPSO’s professional units; UniMac’s latest commercial washers with upgraded networking capabilities and advanced water-conservation features; Cissell’s steam-heated tumble dryers and a turnout gear dryer especially for the firefighting industry; Huebsch’s new Galaxy control for marine; and D’hooge’s heavy-duty washer-extractor customized for the Chinese market.
BÜFA considers China’s developing laundry and drycleaning industry to be a sound investment, according to Dominique Suttheimer, export manager.
“There are significant business opportunities for us to expand our market position in the specialized use of laundry and drycleaning chemicals in China. We expect the energy-saving Lizerna Intensive, a 30 C laundry fat remover; Reoxal, a color-bleeding troubleshooter; and the new Deta-Profi spotting series containing six different spotters will be amongst the fair favorites at Texcare Asia this year.”
Seitz, another laundry and drycleaning chemical producer, will display its full range of products, including the Pure White System, a laundry application for “brilliant white textiles,” as well as Polysol odoSorb and Novaclin Fresh KE for “quick process time and with reduced static,” the company says.
Shanghai Weishi, having gained success for its innovative garment and laundry pressing equipment in Japan and elsewhere, will be launching tailored products at Texcare, including its first wet-pressing machine, the company says.
