DURHAM, N.C. – While the American Reusable Textile Association (ARTA) focused its inaugural seminar two years ago on processing and marketing, The Insider’s Guide II: Reusable Medical Textiles – The Role of Textiles and Successful Pack Room Operations, promises to go deeper into the details and specifics of running a successful healthcare laundry.
ARTA is partnering with the Textile Rental Services Association (TRSA) and North Carolina State University to host the April 30-May 1 event at Durham’s Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club.
The seminar will give special attention to the role of textiles during surgical intervention and developing a successful pack room operation. Operators who attend can receive up to 12 contact hours.
Scheduled speakers include the following:
• Keynote speaker Lynne Sehulster, Ph.D., M(ASCP), of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), will discuss surgical outcomes and infection control.
• Cindy Molko, director of linen and central services for the Mayo Clinic, is to address the role of customer service and working with surgical staff.
• Connie Sackett, RN, will provide a clinical perspective on product selection and the use of reusable and single-use products.
• Peter Brown, W.L. Gore, is to discuss U.S. standards, test methods and the selection of protective attire for surgery.
• Jim Sprout, Standard Textile, will discuss pack room productivity from an industrial engineering point of view.
• Steve Tinker, Gurtler Industries, will discuss laundering and the balance between quality requirements and productivity needs.
