NEW ORLEANS — The Association for Linen Management (ALM) celebrated its successes of the past year during its 69th annual awards reception at a local hotel last night.
Steve Schiely, Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, was named the 2009 Heywood Wiley Manager of the Year. Accepting the award in his absence was Barbara Bowen, a former Manager of the Year from Cedar Village, Mason, Ohio.
Other finalists for ALM’s top management award were Zane Dennis, Hendrick Health System, Abilene, Texas, and Paul Jewison, Textile Care Services, Rochester, Minn.
Robin Holmes, Encompass Group, was the 2009 Allied Tradesperson of the Year. Other finalists were Stephen Baker, The Minnesota Chemical Co., and Bob Barksdale, Standard Textile Co.
ALM President Bart Carpenter presented special awards to Robert Hewett of ARAMARK and Wes Breedlove for many years of dedicated service to the association. Breedlove was unable to attend.
The association also recognized the top regular member recruiter, chapter recruiter, service award-winners, and the recipients of scholarships to the American Laundry & Linen College (ALLC).
Attendees observed a moment of silence in memory of Ray Supak, an ALLC facilitator who recently died after a long illness.
ALM has scheduled a national educational conference for June 10-13, 2010, in Louisville, Ky., according to Executive Director Jim Thacker.
